Spring Exhibition Premiere - March 23rd & 24th, 2019
On the weekend of March 23rd and 24th, 2019, the Museum of the Republic of Vietnam held its Spring Exhibition Premiere. The weekend was filled with a series of events dedicated to preservation and education of Republic of Vietnam history. On Saturday, visitors to the museum enjoyed a viewing of the film "Người Tình Không Chân Dung" (Soldier Without a Face) from 1971. The audience had the pleasure of the special experience of watching the film with the two leading stars, the actress Kieu Chinh and Colonel Vu Xuan Thong.
Sunday saw a live band performing pre-1975 Republic of Vietnam music throughout the day as well as free food and beverages for those in attendance. Throughout the weekend visitors were able to experience and view never before publicly exhibited artifacts pertaining to unique aspects of Republic of Vietnam history. These included a rare selection of artifacts related to the Republic of Vietnam Marine Division and United States Marine Corps advisory program during the Vietnam War. One of the most poignant artifacts on display was an original prisoner uniform worn by a Republic of Vietnam soldier held in captivity by the Communist regime in Vietnam. '
The highlight of the exhibition was the original naval architect's model for the Republic of Vietnam Navy's Junk Force Fleet. The model was donated to the museum by Ada Lou Duacsek who is the widow of the late United States Navy Captain Anthony William Duacsek. Captain Duacsek was the senior Unit States Navy advisor to the Republic of Vietnam Naval Shipyard in Saigon during the mid-1960s. Mrs. Duacsek also devoted her time to be interviewed as part of the museum's ongoing oral history project. A special award was also presented to Mrs. Duacsek by the museum on behalf of her contribution to the preservation and education of the history of the Republic of Vietnam. It was great to see meet many old friends and new.
The museum would like to thank everyone who came out this past weekend, and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!
